Darlington Locomotive Works: 60 years since closure - Richard Barber
In association with North Eastern Railway Association (NER), Richard Barber presents a talk detailing the closure of Darlington Locomotive Works.
In April it will be 60 years since the closure of Darlington Locomotive Works, a major employer and significant railway building facility in the North East.
Richard Barber takes us through the history of the works, from the early beginnings in the1830s to the end of building and repairing locomotives in 1966. A look at North Road works and Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns workshops (Stivvies) and of course the scrapyard at North Road station, an early playground for Richard and many others.
This lecture will be recorded and avaiable to view in the NER members area.
