S&DR200 PRESENTS

a festival celebrating the birth of the modern railway, March to November 2025.

S&DR200 is a 9-month international festival taking place here at Hopetown Darlington, and across County Durham and the Tees Valley, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the first journey on the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR).

There are two exciting exhibitions taking place in the Carriage Works at Hopetown Darlington, presented by S&DR200.

Railway Pioneers

S&DR200 Presents three iconic locomotives that will be on show illustrating the advancements of rail technology in the early 19th century and engineering innovation which led to the opening of the S&DR.

STEAM to the Future

Following the story of the early railways, S&DR200 Presents an exhibition taking a playful but important look at the future using commissioned art pieces showcasing the science behind how locomotives and steam works.
