Home Educators' Workshops: Ages 10-16

Home Educators' Workshops: Ages 10-16

Discover our programme of workshops aimed at children aged 10-16.

From taking an in-depth look at a selection of the 30,000 objects in our collection in The Stores, handling objects like a curator and completing short interactive activities, to finding out the untold history of Darlington, its association with the railways and how we tell this pioneering history, there's plenty of workshops to complement your home educating programme.

Workshops are followed by one hours play in Wagon Woods.

What's On...

11 November - Create a Character and Start a Story

Be inspired by our collections in The Stores and create your own railway character. We’ll be getting our imaginations warmed up with some quick activities before we create our character and give them an interesting back story. Start a story for your character by using a storyboard template.

Skills: speaking and listening, drawing, minimal writing.

3 December - Christmas Arts and Crafts

Get in a Christmas mood by making and decorating cards and decorations to take home. We’ve got origami, paint and ceramic pens to use, and we’ll have some seasonal treats to eat too!

Skills: speaking and listening, art and craft.

13 January 2026 - Construction Challenges

Be inspired by our engineering past as we design transport for the future! We have a carousel of activities using Lego, K’nex, card and wooden pieces to make models. The card and wood vehicles can be taken home.

21 January 2026 - Dobbin Workshop

Take inspiration from the paitning of 'The Opening Day of the Stockton and Darlington Railway' by John Dobbin and make your own artwork - led by local atist Dawn Belshaw of Daisy Arts.
