Sporting Memories Club

Sporting Memories Club Launches at Hopetown

Sports fans and local residents are invited to take a trip down memory lane as the Sporting Memories Club comes to the birthplace of the passenger railway.

The age-friendly and dementia-friendly club offers a welcoming space for people to reminisce about sporting moments, take part in quizzes, games and gentle activities, and make new friendships. Sessions are designed to bring people together through a shared love of sport, helping to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.

The club - which starts on Tuesday 4 August 2026 - will meet every Tuesday from 10.30am to 12 noon with the first session featuring a special guest appearance from former Darlington manager and three-times a Quaker, David Hodgson.

Sporting Memories is a national charity that uses the power of sport and reminiscence to connect older people, promote physical activity and tackle loneliness.
