A model model railway

If you've visited The Stores, you'll have no doubt noticed the large model railway that spans the north eastern wall.

With its beautiful miniatures and phenomenal attention to detail, we thought it would be worth sharing more information about this model model railway.

It was built for the 150th Stockton and Darlington Railway anniversary in 1975 by the Americana Model Railway Club of Darlington. The scene itself covers the route that journeys from Shildon through Heighington, Darlington, Eaglescliffe to Stockton Quay with branches to Darlington, Croft and Yarm.

The model itself has been built to the protofour standard, which means models are constructed to a scale of 4 mm to 300 mm. More than that, the locomotives themselves are scratch-built - so each one is entirely unique.
