Students revive railway dining traditions

Darlington College Catering Students have been cooking up something special to celebrate the Bicentenary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway!

For the last six months the Level 1 catering students have been working on a project with the S&DR 26 miles Heritage Team to create a celebratory menu and recipe book to commemorate 200 years of railway history! Taking inspiration from historical records and menus, provided by Darlington Libraries, the students have created dishes to represent celebrations from the birth of S&DR in 1825, 1875, the centenary of 1925 and the most recent celebrations in 1975.

Take a look for yourself and see what you would fancy to celebrate 2025!

Thanks to Darlington College, Chris York and his catering students, as well as Level 3 Games Design student Hannah Calder for the artwork/booklet design.

The Stockton and Darlington Railway 26miles Heritage Project, (S&DR 26miles), is a National Heritage Lottery Funded project working to promote, explore and celebrate 200 years of railway history!

Over the next four years, S&DR 26miles is working with communities along the original 26 miles of the Stockton and Darlington Railway line to explore our past, celebrate our heritage and look to our future.
