Unfortunately the 1861 Shed will be closed on Saturday 5 July. It will reopen on Saturday 19 July as usual.
Darlington Locomotive Works remains open as usual.

A historic railway building brought back to life
The 1861 Shed (sometimes known as North Road Locomotive Works) used to be a wagon repair shop and housed railway carriages throughout the 19th century.
After sitting empty for over 30 years, it has been brought back into use as the new shared home for the Darlington Railway Preservation Society (DRPS) and the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG).
Visits to the 1861 Shed
The 1861 Shed opens to the public on the first and third Saturday of every month.
You can visit anytime between 10am-3pm and there is limited free parking on site. The address is:

You can also combine your visit with a visit to the workshop in Darlington Locomotive Works on the same Saturdays. If you wish to visit both, please meet in the Viewing Gallery of Darlington Locomotive Works (access is from within the Hopetown Darlington site) at either 11am or 1pm to join in!
Visits are free of charge but donations are welcome. No need to book, pick up your free site admission on the day.
